I kind of love the intensity of this guy's ten minute introduction to Romanticism. He reminds me of an old school Simon Schama with the close-ups and his lofty air. We also get a peak into Keats' house which I could very well visit on my trip to Europe!
Who knew that Rambo was so learn'd? What's that? Rimbaud? Well then nevermind. Also his hair is breathtaking. The Princeton Encyc of Poetics is a good place to learn everything you never wanted to know about the Ode form. Its entry on Romanticism is no less inclusive. It makes the Wu book look like a pamphlet.
ReplyDeleteThe most majestic hair of all. And yeah, about Wu: he does a great job of dodging any sort of concrete definitions or declarations, instead expecting everyone to read the entirety of his 1500+ page pamphlet. It's impossible. If I get more excited about a documentary with probably dead now perfect hair guy, there's a problem with Wu's writing. Or maybe I'm just being ornery? Will look up Princeton Encyc.
